We are to worship God and Him alone.
The first commandment is short and absolute: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” After establishing who He is and the proper uses of the Law, God begins the Decalogue by claiming exclusive rights to our worship and glory.
We are not the center of the universe. The Creator alone is great, and all glory belongs to Him. By nature we are glory thieves, seeking to place ourselves or lesser things at the center. True conversion is the glad surrender of that stolen glory. Soli Deo Gloria is not merely a Reformation slogan—it is the first word of the Christian life. There is only one God, and He will not share His glory with another.
