Believers steward what God has given them for His glory rather than steal for their own.
The eighth commandment is short—“You shall not steal”—yet it rests on a foundational truth: private property is good, and God alone sets the standard for ownership and justice. Stealing is taking what does not belong to you without permission, and Scripture addresses far more than simple theft.
The command covers dishonest business practices, false measurements, wage theft, laziness that consumes others’ resources, and the failure to steward time, talent, and treasure. For the believer, the positive side of the command is clear: we are stewards, not owners. Everything we have has been entrusted by God. We protect what belongs to others, work diligently, give generously, and manage what God has given for His glory rather than our own.
