The seventh commandment is about protecting the marriage bed and the gospel.
God designed sex as a good gift—relational, recreational, and joyful—within the covenant of marriage. The seventh commandment protects that gift. It is not merely a prohibition against a particular act; it is a call to honor the one-flesh union that God Himself established.
Marriage is a living picture of Christ and His church. To violate the marriage bed is to dishonor both the gift and the gospel it portrays. For the believer, obedience is not external rule-keeping but the overflow of a heart that loves God and therefore refuses to steal a neighbor’s spouse—in body or in heart. We protect the marriage bed because we treasure the Redeemer who first loved us.
