What is the role of the law in the life of a Christian?
As preparation for the Ten Commandments continues, Pastor Rodney turns to Matthew 5 where Jesus addresses the relationship between His kingdom and the Old Testament Law. The religious leaders feared that Jesus was abolishing the Law of Moses. Instead, Jesus declares that He came not to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them.
The Law of the kingdom fulfills rather than cancels the Law given at Sinai. For the Christian—the kingdom citizen—the moral Law remains a guide for how to live under the rule of King Jesus. The same God who spoke at Mount Sinai now speaks through His Son, and the proper response is grateful, Spirit-empowered obedience.
