What is the role of the law in the life of a Christian?
In this second message on the relationship between the Law and the kingdom, Pastor Rodney examines the six concrete examples Jesus gives in Matthew 5:21–48. The scribes and Pharisees had reduced the Law to external, minimum “hand obedience.” Jesus exposes the true intent of the Law and presses it all the way to the heart.
Anger is the root of murder. Lust is the root of adultery. Divorce, oaths, retaliation, and love of enemy are all redefined by the King. The Law of the kingdom does not abolish the Old Testament Law; it fulfills it by calling for wholehearted love for God and neighbor. True obedience is never mere rule-keeping—it is the overflow of a heart transformed by grace.
