Believers are to recognize God’s holiness and approach with a committed heart, consecrated with Christ’s perfect sacrifice.
After calling Israel to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, the Lord prepares to come down on Mount Sinai in a visible display of His glory. Moses relays the people’s commitment to obey, and God gives clear instructions: consecrate yourselves, wash your garments, and set boundaries around the mountain. No one may approach casually.
This is a royal visit from the King of the universe. Approach requires reverence, preparation, and a heart that understands the holiness of God. The same truth applies to us today. Through Christ’s perfect sacrifice we are brought near, yet we still approach with holy fear and committed hearts, never treating the living God as common.
