Believers have been saved for the purpose of being royal priests.
Three months after leaving Egypt, Israel camps at the foot of Mount Sinai. God renews His covenant with them, reminding them that He brought them out of slavery on eagles’ wings and brought them to Himself. The call is clear: if they will obey His voice and keep His covenant, they will be His treasured possession—a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.
Like Joseph, who was freed from slavery and exalted to serve as a mediator, Israel has been delivered for a purpose. They are to represent the King and mediate His truth to the nations. The same is true for every believer: we have been saved not merely from something, but for something—to live as royal priests who declare the excellencies of the One who called us out of darkness.
